niga kanji is a Japanese learning app. This policy describes version 1.0.3 and later, with notes about earlier subscriptions and imports.
Study progress
The app stores study progress and history, lesson completion, review schedules, personal mnemonics, answers you add, and app settings on your device. An unfinished study session also stores your current typed response and unfinished mnemonic drafts locally so you can resume; these drafts are not included in the app's iCloud progress backups.
First-launch acknowledgment
The app stores the name-disclaimer acknowledgment and your drawn signature on your device. These are not included in the app's CloudKit study-progress backup and are not sent to a developer-operated server.
iCloud backup
When iCloud is available, the app can automatically back up and reconcile progress through CloudKit. A valid existing backup may restore on a fresh installation. Settings also provides Back Up Now and Restore controls. Backups contain study progress, history, settings, personal mnemonics, answers you add, and backup/app metadata including a coarse device label. The backup is associated with your Apple Account in its private CloudKit database and is not shared with other app users or copied to a separate developer-operated server.
Earlier WaniKani imports
Version 1.0.3 and later do not include the WaniKani importer in the App Store app. Earlier versions could send a user-entered token directly to WaniKani and save that token in this device's Keychain when requested. The app developer does not receive those tokens. Previously imported study progress remains part of the study data described above.
Free access and earlier subscriptions
Version 1.0.3 and later have no purchases, subscriptions, trials, advertisements, or entitlement checks. Earlier subscriptions and billing records are managed by Apple. The app does not receive payment credentials. You can manage an earlier subscription in your Apple Account; deleting the app does not cancel it.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app schedules local review reminders on your device. The app does not use a third-party push notification provider.
Diagnostic export
If you choose Diagnostic Export, the app creates a file containing app/schema versions, backup status, selected non-text settings, and aggregate study counts. It excludes your signature, personal mnemonic and added-answer text, exact review history, API tokens, and payment details. The file leaves the app only through a destination you choose in Apple's share sheet.
Analytics and tracking
The app does not use advertisements, third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or cross-app tracking. Apple may provide system diagnostics according to your device and App Store privacy choices; the app does not send study text to a separate analytics server.
Data retention and deletion
Local app data remains until it is replaced by a restore or the app is removed; an ordinary progress reset does not clear all settings or personal study text. The app also keeps bounded, file-protected local recovery copies before replacing progress; those internal copies disappear when the app is removed. iCloud backup data remains in your private iCloud database unless replaced by a newer backup or removed through your iCloud account controls. Apple-managed device backups and recovery copies are controlled through your Apple Account and iCloud settings.
